Oooh… today’s Washington DC area wedding from Amber Karson Events and Abby Jiu Photography is cute, cute, cute! Stephanie and Adam were married last fall at Glen Echo Park, a former amusement park just outside of Washington, DC. Stephanie and Adam worked with the ladies of Amber Karson Events to create a carnival-style wedding inspired by the venue – with lots of whimsical details to accompany the wedding festivities.
From the ladies at Amber Karson Events: We loved working with Stephanie and Adam on their playful wedding at historic Glen Echo Park, an old amusement park that is full of charm and personality (just like the couple!)
To go along with the carnival theme, we incorporated playful details such as giant suckers, ring pops, and candy. A faux wedding cake made out of rolls of tickets was playfully displayed on a cake stand shared by the word LOVE spelled from gummy candy letters. A color palette of bright blue and apple green was incorporated into many of the details.
Adam and Stephanie were married under the Cuddle Up Pavilion (how cute is that!) in a ceremony full of personal touches. Guests were greeted and offered warm apple cider as they departed the bus and made their way to the ceremony (apples were later reintroduced in the table décor). A close college friend served as the officiant.
Stephanie and Adam’s Chuppah was a DIY project they made with some newlywed friends who also used it during their wedding earlier in the year! The groom’s mother made the custom blue fabric aisle runner to match the decor. Park benches and bleachers were used to create a fun and personal ceremony space. One of our favorite ceremony moments was each of the seven members of the bridal party reading one of the Seven Jewish Blessings.
Guests dined and danced the night away in the Bumper Car Pavilion. They were able to explore multiple food stations from Main Event Caterers – the gourmet grilled cheese sandwich/soup station was a hit on the chilly fall evening as was the pierogi station representing the bride’s Polish roots!
The bride and groom said one of their favorite pre-wedding activities was “Popcorn Tasting.” They hand selected each flavor that made it on to their popular popcorn station. Favor bags were arranged with a sign that read, “Life is Salty, Love is Sweet, Take Some Popcorn Home to Eat!”
In lieu of a traditional wedding cake, the couple treated guests with ice cream sundaes. Ice cream was sourced from local DC favorite, Gifford’s. Both sides of the family baked homemade cookies and there were oodles of topping choices. Rather than have a traditional receiving line, Adam and Stephanie scooped ice cream for each of their guests. They had a great time and were able to chat with each of their guests as they passed through the line. They even sported aprons displaying their favorite (rival) baseball teams!
When choosing a wedding venue, make sure it represents your style and allows for the atmosphere you want your guests to experience. Stephanie and Adam’s wedding at Glen Echo Park was a perfect fit for a lively celebration and a great representation of their playful personalities and sweet love for one another.
