Today’s Virginia wedding from {a}strid photography is an absolutely stunning winter affair accompanied by touching details from the bride and groom’s family history.  Kristin and Jesse were married this past January in Virginia, with a winter wonderland theme inspired by the beautiful details of Kristin’s wedding dress.  The ceremony took place in the same church where Jesse’s parents and sister were also married, and those strong family connections proved to be a common thread through the entire day.

The inspiration for the entire wedding came from Kristin’s wedding dress.  Kristin fell in love with a dramatic and elegant wedding down with a high halter neckline and ornate beading and lace.  After finding her dress, Kristin decided to alter her original plans for an outdoor vineyard wedding, opting instead for an indoor winter wonderland wedding.  Kristin also chose to wear a dramatic cathedral length veil with lace details, which made for a dramatic entrance during the church ceremony!

Kristin’s engagement ring is a family heirloom over 90 years old!  It belonged to Jesse’s great aunt when she arrived in the United States from Cuba and served as Kristin’s “something old.”

Kristin’s “something borrowed’ was a  chaplet that was strung around her bouquet of flowers.  The chaplet also had strong personal and family connections: it is made from rosewood and the beads were pressed with the flowers from Jesse’s grandmother’s funeral.

Kristin and Jesse were married in Jesse’s family church, where Jesse’s parents had been married 30 years before.  Jesse grew up under the guidance of the same minister who married them that day.  The same church also served as the venue for Jesse’s sister’s wedding, the baptism of the flower girl, and the funeral of Jesse’s grandmother.  Given Jesse’s strong family connections to the church, Kristin and Jesse knew from the very beginning that they wanted the ceremony to be held there.

Because Kristin and Jesse’s wedding took place during the evening, they opted for a day-after (outdoor!) portrait session with Astrid the following afternoon.  Simply stunning!
