Happy Valentine’s Day! And it wouldn’t really be Valentine’s Day without at least one wedding, would it? We went absolutely gaga for this adorable Valentine’s Day Washington DC wedding from Lisa of Sweet Tea Photography, with cute pink and white details that pay homage both to the annual tradition as well as the couple’s own personal history. Charlotte and Joel were married on February 14, 2010, the 58th anniversary of the wedding of Charlotte’s grandparents in 1942!
From Charlotte: Valentine’s Day is not only important to us because it’s super romantic (duh!), but because my grandparents were married on Valentine’s Day 1942. A large picture of the two on their wedding day stood right outside the doors of our reception, and we included a message on the back of our programs letting guests know the significance of the day to our family. It feels really special to know we will always share an anniversary date with them!
Our families had known each other for a long time, and although we crossed paths a few times over the years, I didn’t formally met Joel until two years ago. The first time I ever saw Joel was when he came to visit my class when I was in 8th grade. He was a Senior, and an ambassador for his high school, giving us a presentation about the school. While he was speaking all I remember is thinking was, “He is so dreamy and handsome! He is so dreamy and handsome!” Little did I know I’d marry him one day! I’m so blessed! We reconnected via Facebook years later and dated ever since!
When planning our Valentine’s Day wedding, Joel and I knew we wanted to incorporate a few details that gave a nod to the holiday, without being too corny. We had guests write us “valentines” and put them into a homemade card box instead of signing a guest book. We named our tables after famous couples in history, Barbie & Ken, Romeo & Juliet, Brad & Angelina, etc. And our wedding favor was a small box of conversational hearts.
I love these images that Lisa took using her Holga camera towards the end of the evening!
Happy Anniversary Charlotte and Joel!!
