As promised, we’re back with more from Mai and Mark’s wedding reception at the Carnegie Institution, with beautiful details by Event Accomplished and captured by Documentary Associates. (See their DC wedding ceremony!) Mai and Mark’s wedding reception was in perfect keeping with the lovely wedding ceremonies earlier in the day, with an overall romantic mood and an emphasis on the blending of the bride and groom’s cultures.
The floral centerpiece for the escort card table included yellow orchids that resemble the mai flower, a yellow flower often found in Vietnam – a nod to the bride’s name and heritage.
The cocktail hour featured a signature drink called “Mai Tie the Knot,” a spin off a mai tai. For their first dance, Mai and Mark danced to “Besame Mucho” by Andrea Bocelli.
The dinner tables were dressed in pewter pintuck tablecloths and topped with pastel yellow napkins and candles-filled lanterns. Dinner tables were named after DC locations, while the escort cards had a Polaroid-style look.
The reception room was bathed in soft amber lighting. On the menu cards, Vicky and her team at Event Accomplished used the mai flower motif with a pair of chopsticks tied to the card as favors.
For dinner, the couple had a family-style 6 course dinner with a mix of Vietnamese and American dishes. For dessert, guests were presented with an assortment of cupcakes from Georgetown Cupcake!
