Ahh, the wedding registry.  Should we?  Shouldn’t we?  There are many questions surrounding this wedding tradition.  If you decide to register for gifts you are more likely to receive the items that you want to build your nest.  If you skip it, you could end up with lots of cash (yay!) or some scary vases (boo!).  Regardless of your decision, one thing about a wedding is certain:  Most, if not all, guests will get you a gift.  Weddings are a celebration.  People love celebrations and they love to give gifts.

Sure, the Washington, DC area has plenty of Crate & Barrels and Williams Sonomas and dare I say, Bed Bath and Beyonds, but if you and yours are in the mood to go local with your wedding registry, here are a few alternative places in the DC area to consider.

Contemporary interior design and furniture
For the soon-to-be married couple interested in getting a little help from friends and family to furnish their home, registering at Vastu may be the answer.  Couples can schedule time with a Vastu interior designer to determine exactly what they’re looking for.  The couple can then select a single piece, or a room full of furniture, and wedding guests are welcome to put a certain dollar amount towards the final purchase of the item(s).  The Vastu team will keep track of guests and their gift so that the couple can issue thank you cards and will let them know the balance (if there is one) due to get their new furniture into their home.  For more information on Vastu’s wedding registry, contact Janelle at janelle@vastudc.com.
