In the market for a wedding steal that supports a great cause?  We are lucky that Janice, owner of Bellwether Events, tipped us off to some great (and I mean great!) deals from local DC, MD and VA wedding professionals through the Wish Upon a Wedding‘s silent auction.  But, hurry, hurry!  The auction ends at the end of the month.  More from Janice below.

How would you like to get a good deal and help out a nonprofit at the same time?  I know I would.  I once got a $500 point and shoot camera in exchange for a $300 donation to Toys for Tots.  Jackpot!

There is a nonprofit called Wish Upon A Wedding and it is a national organization dedicated to giving weddings (and vow renewals!) to couples facing terminal illness or severe personal hardship – regardless of sexual orientation.  The organization is less than a year old and has already given at least five weddings to deserving couples across the country, including one adorable couple in Washington DC this past August.  (Check out the pictures from Erwin and Ed’s wedding here.)

Wish Upon A Wedding currently has an online auction (seen here) going on to raise funds for the organziation’s mission.  All items have been donated by wedding professionals, so if you are planning a wedding, it is highly likely that you are in need of some of these goods and services.  Some items are available natioanlly, and some are local to the DC area.  And by bidding in the auction you could get a deal and help out others – at the same time!  Doesn’t that make you feel warm and fuzzy?

There are some really cool items in the auction like wedding coordination packages, invitation sets, calligraphy, wedding photo albums, brooch bouquets, an Etsy package and honeymoons!  Please check them out and see if you want to bid.  Visit the auction here!

Thank you so much, Janice!  I checked out the auction items and they are pretty amazing!  I found some local items for DC, MD and VA weddings:

  • A Hitched Salon $500 gift certificate for a gown here.  The opening bid is only $40 and it can be used on a gown already purchased!
  • A bridal makeup session valued at $175 here.  The opening bid is only $39!
  • $7,500 floral and decor package here.  The opening bid is $250 (wow!) and includes bouquets, boutonieres, petals, the works!
  • A lifestyle photo shoot from Mary Kate McKenna valued at $500 here.  The opening bid is only $50!

Happy bidding (and do-gooding)!!
